1. Probationary Members:
Organisations who wish to apply for membership in COVA will be placed in The Probationary Members category for a minimum period of 3 months and a maximum period of 6 months. Probationary Members are required to pay a registration fee of Rs. 100/- and the same will be adjusted against the yearly subscription of Rs.200/- as and when they become Member Groups. COVA membership shall be accorded on the basis of performance and not as per seniority of application. Probationary Members should also submit monthly reports of their activities and invite COVA representatives for their programmes. Probationary members who do not qualify for membership of COVA within 6 months of being placed in that category will not be awarded membership of COVA. Probationary Members can avail of the COVA infrastructure and facilities. No representative of a Probationary Member Organisation can be inducted to anybody or committee of COVA.
2. Category of members
There shall be following Categories of Members of COVA:
a) Affiliate Member
b) Associate Member
c) Honorary Member
d) Ex-Officio Member
a) Affiliate Membership:
Eligibility for Affiliate Membership:
Networks of Organizations subscribing to the Memorandum of Association of COVA may become the Affiliate Members of the Society by virtue of Membership awarded by the Executive Committee of COVA.
All Networks of COVA can become Affiliate Members. Affiliate Members shall be members of the General Body have one vote each and can contest elections
b) Associate Members:
Eligibility of Associate Members
Organisations, Cooperatives, Groups and distinguished personalities subscribing to the Memorandum of Association of COVA may become the Associate Members of the Society by virtue of Membership awarded by the Executive Committee of COVA
Organisations, institutions, Cooperatives and individuals can become Associate Member. Associate Members shall be members of the General Body have one vote each and can contest elections. Associate Members shall have a term of two years that can be renewed by the Executive Committee.
c) Honorary Members:
Eligibility of Honorary Members
Organisations, groups and distinguished personalities subscribing to the Memorandum of Association of COVA may become the Honorary Members of the Society by virtue of Membership awarded by the Executive Committee of COVA
Organisations, Institutions and Distinguished Individuals can become Honoray Members. Their term shall be for a period of two years renewable by the Executive Committee. Honorary Members will not have any vote and cannot contest elections. Honorary members can participate in any meetings of the society only as special invitees. There shall be no limit to the number of Honorary Members.
3. Procedure for Membership
Application for membership of the Society shall be addressed to the President of the Executive Committee of the Society in the form prescribed by the Society and submitted to the Executive Director of COVA. The Executive Committee shall scrutinize the applications and shall decide acceptance or rejection of any application for membership. All Decisions of the Executive Committee on Memberships shall be placed before the General Body for ratification.
1. Decision taken on applications for award of Membership shall be communicated in writing to the applicants.
2. The membership of the Society shall be deemed to commence from the date of the decision of the Executive Committee.
a) Admission fee:
Admission fee of Rs.200/- is payable by the new Affiliate Organizational Member. There shall be no admission fee for Associate and Honorary Members.
b) Membership Fee:
1. Affiliate Organizational Member shall pay an annual Membership Fee of Rs. 200/- for each financial year.
2. There shall be an annual membership fee of Rs. 100/- for Associate and Honorary Members.
4. Forfeiture of Membership:
If the Fee is not paid within three months from the commencement of the financial year, such members shall forfeit their membership.
Disqualification of Affiliate, Associate and Honorary Members:
The Executive Committee shall initiate the process to expel any Affiliate, Associate or Honorary Member from membership of the Society on the following grounds.
a) If the Affiliate organisation or its representative / associate member or Honorary Member fails to work in partnership / collaboration with the Society
b) If the Executive Committee has established proof of any financial mis-management by the member.
c) If the Executive Committee in its considered decision finds the member is working / acting against the values / aims, objects and interests of the Society.
All decisions of the Executive Committee for disqualification of membership shall be placed before the General Body for ratification.
Disqualification for Associate / Honorary or Affiliate Membership or
For being Representatives of such Membership categories:
A person shall be disqualified from becoming an Associate / Honorary Member or representing any Affiliate, Associate or Honorary Member if he/she is:
a) Not a major,
b) Of unsound mind and stands so declared by a competent court,
c) An applicant to be adjudicated as an insolvent or is an un-discharged insolvent,
d) Convicted of an offence, involving moral turpitude or sentenced by a criminal court to a fine not less than six months, and
e) Disqualified for such an appointment by an order of a Court. If the Executive Committee in its considered decision finds the person is working / acting against the values / aims, objects and interests of the Society.
In such situations the Executive Committee shall initiate the process for the disqualification of the member, and in case of a representative, shall intimate to the concerned Affiliate Member to nominate another representative.
Appeal and Re-admission of Members:
Any member of the Society, who has ceased to be a member of any category whatsoever of the Society, may within a period of three months appeal to the Executive Committee giving grounds for re-admission to the Society, the Executive Committee shall consider all such appeals and take appropriate decision thereon which shall be final and binding on the said member.
Rights and Privileges of Membership:
Members of the Society shall enjoy the following “Rights and Privileges”: –
i) To receive notice of all annual and special general meetings.
ii) To vote in all the annual and special general meetings.
All Member of the Society, except Honorary Members are eligible to vote, contest elections and hold office.
